Web Developer Blog

Wikepedia define a blog as "a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order". The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." The word blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

The term blog is commonly acredited to the web-journal pioneer Travis Petler. He coined the term on his personal blog in early September of 1997 while studying at Brown University. His use of the word spread to other college campus' where other weblogs were present.

Technorati, the recognized authority on what they describe as the World Live Web [the dynamic and always-updating portion of the Web]report that there are over 175,000 new blogs every day. Bloggers update their blogs at a rate of over 1.6 million posts per day, or over 18 updates a second.

Hotel and Accomodation Booking Systems

Generation X Internet are currently trialling the Open Source Solunas Booking Engine software, which claims to be aimed at hotels and holiday homes with up to 150 units who are seeking to market their accomodation over the internet. The trend in online bookings continues to rise and this online hotel booking and reservation system claims to be especially suited to customers experiencing double digit growth. Test sentence.

The end user has two methods of reserving or booking their accomodation: a visual reservations calendar displaying room availability and offering the customer direct booking online by mouse-click; and a manual selection of the booking period and number of persons, involving a list of available units or groups that can be booked directly online. Details of the total price and last minute bargains are generated directly from the system.

The system offers a choice of installing locally, or running the software via a remote server. Our initial tests of the booking system are based on running the application remotely via a Joomla/CMS-GXi interface.

The booking path, known internally as Bookflow, can be modified to suit specific individual requirements.
